Collab Interview w/ Joshua Ariza of Chomp
We are in the business of bringing value to the clothing we make as a means of honoring the people who made each item and helping you cherish each piece for years to come. That is why we decided to partner up with our good friend Joshua Ariza and his brand Chomp on a limited run of jackets featuring his artwork. We produced an extremely limited run of these jackets and whatever if available will be sold on the Chomp Brand website.
We sat down with Josh to learn more about his background and what lead him to create this skate-inspired community art project. Read along...

If you chose 3 words to describe Chomp, what would they be?
Playful. Irreverent. Illustration.
You previously held design jobs with companies many artists would love to have. Why did you decide to go out on your own & start Chomp?

I loved my time in action sports, but leaving my full time position was pretty simple. I wanted to design whatever I wanted. And frankly, the higher you go within a corporate structure, the more you simply manage projects. In other words, I had to do less design to make more money. I don’t like that trade off. And also, I’m truly horrible at office politics. I can’t even think two steps ahead.

Chomp is an art project. But I’m always soliciting ideas for imagery from my community. I think of it as improv. I’ll ask for suggestions in the form of emojis.
How do you describe the artwork (or the aesthetic) you create for Chomp?

I rotate a few illustration styles. But chomp is more about the tone of the art than the style. It has to be a little weird or a lot hilarious. Usually there’s a reference or message contained within the art.
Can you describe to us (in a metaphor) what it's like when someone supports your small business through a purchase?

You are able to support a child’s dream of becoming an artist. That child is me. The art is drawings of snakes and skulls.

The weirdest place I’ve ever seen chomp was on this billionaire. He’s a billionaire who flies commercial. Our economy KING.
